Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD)

As a leader in sustainable development, Holcim Vietnam was appointed as co-chair of the Vietnam Business Council of Sustainable Development (VBCSD) in December 2010 at the first meeting of the newly established organisation. The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the appointed organizer of the Council along with Holcim, is the other co-chair.
The 15 founding members of the council’s executive board include leading companies and multinational corporations, such as SaigonTourist, Tata Steel, Standard Chartered Bank, Unilever and Novartis Pharma. The appointment of Holcim as co-chair is a recognition from other companies that we are one of the top sustainable development players in Vietnam.
In the capacity of co-chair of the council, Holcim Vietnam will have a strong voice in recommending changes related to sustainable development policies in Vietnam on behalf of the business community. With our activities in environmental protection, social responsibility and sustainable construction, we will be in a better position to engage and share experiences with the Vietnamese government and the local business community.
The VBCSD is the 60th council of this type in the world, approved by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan in September 2010. Its mission is to promote sustainable business strategies related to environmental protection and natural resources by encouraging local business communities to apply environmentally-friendly technology and contribute to a renewable-energy industry. The Council will also put priority on education and climate-change adaptation.
